Carry On Tuesday will be three years old on Tuesday next, the 15th of May. However, in the last couple of months the number of participants has dwindled to an amount which no longer justifies the work which goes into producing our weekly prompts. Whilst other sites use only single words or pictures, here at Carry On I can spend several hours a week reading and researching before coming up with a suitable first line, title or quotation. Carry On Plus also takes a considerable amount of time to produce. So, this may be the last ever Carry On Tuesday prompt - I'll be deciding what to do before next weeks deadline. So watch this space!

This week I've chosen the English title of a well known Italian song, Con te Partiro better known as....
TIME TO SAY GOODBYE
Use it at the start of or within your piece then hand your URL over to Mister Linky. A comment would be appreciated.
To see Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman singing this song, and to read an English translation click on

The comment is in the poem.....and very sincerely meant.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your delightful poem, and the support you have shown over the years.
DeleteKeith, I have always enjoyed your site when I participated; and I know how much work it is (as I work with a couple of sites too). I think the sad thing is, however, when one gets a bunch of people happy to post their links but never make any visits to other participants. This happens all too often. I found this happening to me here at your site. I visited many people who did not return visits, but I am sure were pleased with MY visit. And seldom did a SOUL visit me unless I visited first. Actually there are a lot of people like this in the blogosphere who receive well, but give zilch. I don't know what your decision will be, Keith. I don't always have something to write in response to your prompt, but I have in the past and may again if you continue. I can understand feeling down-hearted about all the work you put in. Best wishes to you no matter what you decide!
ReplyDeleteI echo practically everything Mary says, particularly the business of bloggers who love to GET, but who know nothing about the art of GIVING. I am a co-host on a site where I try to visit almost everyone who links, but rarely do I get a return visit. It can be discouraging. But every once in a while there is one shining moment, and perhaps it will be the hope of that one shining moment that will keep you, and Carry On Tuesday, going. Whatever you decide, I wish you well.
DeleteThere are some very good points made here. Running a succesful blog means interacting with other bloggers, it goes with the territory!
DeleteMary, you've mentioned something here that is a real bugbear of mine too. Like you I visit lots of sites, but rarely get return visits. Sadly that's the way it is in recent years. Anyway, as far as Carry On is concerned I'll just see how it goes this week and decide whether to carry on or not!
ReplyDeleteKeith, I have linked a short poem. I will comment only on poems of others (from your site) who comment on this one of mine. Usually I am one who travels to different blogs. This time I will be one who waits.
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping you don't wait too long this time!
DeleteHi Keith,
ReplyDeleteI even mentioned YOU in my entry this week. I don't want to say good-bye to you and Carry On Tuesday though of course I can understand how frustrated you are. Just know that I, and I'm sure the other devoted participants would miss it so much. Carry On Tuesday is my favorite prompt and I do appreciate your work. I hope you come back. Best wishes, Laurie F. hibernationnow.wordpress.com
I can't thank you enough for your kind words. I didn't have any idea just how popular Carry On had become - statistics can be misleading!Like I said, watch this space!
DeleteI hope Carry On Tuesday will stay online. I just found this weblog.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for joining in.
DeleteI have not participated for a while. Mainly becos my muse was gone. I have always liked your prompts and don't wish for you to end it...
ReplyDeleteI know you are never far away - you've been one of our most loyal supporters and your contributions are really appreciated. Give your muse a kick from me!
DeleteI'm new here as I've just only heard about you last night from one of the bloggers at Kristjaan's blog.
ReplyDeleteI hope today you get that one shining moment. I hope you will carry on, just as your name suggests.
Hi and thanks for your kind words. I really enjoiyed your poem by the way!
DeleteHello Keith,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, today is 15th, so I wish CoT a very happy third birthday :) Thanks from the bottom of my heart for three years of amazing fun. It's been long since I found this space, from its previous avatar!
I'm not new to Carry on Tuesday. Though I come here less, I always keep an eye out for words that strike my muse. And your efforts with CoT and CoT+ are very well appreciated, I tell ya. I know it's not easy to run a prompt blog, esp one of this magnitude... but I do hope CoT doesn't die down.
Whereas it would prick to see few participants one week, to inspire a muse in even one of us followers of CoT is wonderful I think. And you do that week in week out. Be it five or twenty five, that effort you take to make our idea bulbs glow, that is worth. I echo Mary, but it also tells me I need to read CoT often too. Of late, I've become lazy that way. Hope I visit some more people this time.
Whichever path you choose, I wish you well as well. I'll miss CoT on my Reader if it goes, and so will my muse.
Cheeers, and hope to see #155 on Saturday again, with a big smile and cheer from you.
Leo.
Leo, thanks for your birthday greetings! I hadn't relized how well liked Carry On had become. #156 is become a distinct possibility!
DeleteI've added a note on mine asking readers to come here and contribute if they wish to. I've also noticed that I would note quite a few folks here only to not have a return visit. So, I got so that I would only note people who bothered to note me. I hope things pick up Keith. I know it's a lot of hard work and appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I have to agree with DayDreamerToo. I have participated in your challenges in the past but have found that the posters rarely visited my entryies even after I had gone to read and left comments on theirs. It is the feedback from the comments that keep us taking on the challenges. It's a shame to see this one go as it has had some interesting challenges. Perhaps, if the readers had been a little more connected with the other writers it my have helped. Hope things chane around.
ReplyDeleteYou make some very valid points here. We shall see!
DeleteI hate to see you leave, but respect your decision. It must be time consuming! I haven't participated in this very long, but found it enjoyable. Your prompts are always great! Your writing is even better! If you decide to continue, I'll be back. I wish you all the best.
ReplyDeleteThanks for these kind words - especially about my modest ramblings! The messages of support I'm getting here, on Facebook, by email and on other's blogs are overwhelming. What to do?
DeleteAlthough, I have not participated every week ... I've checked most weeks (since discovering Carry On Tuesday) and enjoyed the times I have participated, as well as reading the entries connected. (I agree this is an important aspect, and it is enlightening as well)
ReplyDeleteYou can tell, Keith, you put much thought, time and work in your selections. They are varied and challenging. Some have prompted me to visit new forms of writing -- as I am partial to micro poetry vs rhyming or structured pieces. I will work on something to go with this challenge -- as it is a poignant one.
Thank you for your time in hosting this great Challenge each week.
Oops --- Happy 3rd Anniversary/Birthday -- quite a milestone! :)
DeleteI'm running out of ways to say thank you to everybody who's sent me messages of support! It looks as if we may head off into year four after all.
DeleteHope you don't mind that I linked up a second poem, actually used the Italian title in this one. Gotta love a muse that cooperates, just wish she could have really taken me to Tuscany with her :)
ReplyDeleteI discovered this pleasant haiku tournament today. I do hope it carries on.

Kindest regards

It seems several are of like mind here about the reciprocity aspect. I spend time with sites and with people who reciprocate. I had enjoyed this site for a while, then when it seemed no one reciprocated I drifted away. Keith, I think if you decide to continue this site, perhaps in your prompt you need to express the importance not only of linking one's own poem/writing but also of visiting other people's work! (As one who is pretty much in charge of another prompt site, I also want to stress how important it is for the leader to visit EVERY poster....unless he/she proves himself/herself a non-responder continually. I draw my line at those too.)
ReplyDeleteMary, I've taken all your suggestions on board. Time to make a decision methinks!
DeleteHello!
ReplyDeleteI just joined in!
And thus I request you not to stop..Not yet!
Please let me enjoy a little of this pleasure of being around such wonderful people!
I would love to check out the other blogs around and I really appreciate the amount of hard work you put to bring in these prompts! They help me breathe,..help me write..! Please do not stoP!
It's been a record week here at Carry On Tuesday. I could well have been persuaded to carry on after all!
DeleteHi, Keith. This is my second week linking in, and I really hope it won't be my last. I'm an admin on a blog, and I know how much work this is. But I hope you will continue, and it seems I'm not alone. Whatever you decide, thank you for last two prompts. They got my muse fired up.
ReplyDeleteYou are certainly not alone! I had no idea that Carry On Tuesday was so liked.
DeleteHi Keith,
ReplyDeleteI am puzzled as to how to get a prompt reminder email...
or if there even is one. I will post my self a note on my calendar to remind me...
I am almost a year in to blogging to prompts...and enjoy your sight and enjoy the information...I can see you work very hard at what you post every week.
I wasn't paying attention earlier...
there may be a second message in moderation as I don't see it here.
Little old ladies have mental pauses at times...
and that's me...Little old lady with dusty brain and mental pauses ... sigh.
Peace,
Congratulations on making a 3 year anniversary.
Siggi in Downeast Maine
I have no idea about prompt reminders either! Dust off the brain and keep writing!
DeleteI’m glad to see many bloggers participating this week. Now, I hope Carry on Tuesday will stay active. And congratulations on completing three years! :)
ReplyDeleteI can honestly say that I didn't realise how loved Carry On Tuesday had become. Reading comments like the ones I've received in the last few days has demonstrated to me that all the work involved really has been worthwhile. Time to make my mind up!
DeleteShall poem later, but just wanted to let you know I'm relatively new to your site, and haven't always been faithful, but you're on my bookmarked masthead, and I try to get over here weekly, when I can. And several of the poems I've written for you are currently being considered for pubs. Your prompts are great, and I just wanted you to know that. And say thanks.

Hi De, thanks for you comment. As an ex publican I'm intrigued by the thought of your poems being used by pubs! I'd love to know more.
DeleteKeith,
ReplyDeleteplease stop by my blog to pick up your award! :-)
Thank you!

I have! Thank you so so much!
Deletenow I feel guilty...been wandering off on my own and have not participated in several months (year?0 but have dropped in on a few occasions and read about you and Rosy. I thoroughly enjoyed your trip to South America. I wrote a piece for you final (I hope not) prompt. If you continue I shall attempt to participate again...Old grizz.
ReplyDeletePosting this week from "Any Old dot dot dot"
I clearly got it wrong when I though Carry On Tuesday was no longer needed! Carry On could now be carrying on after all! Oh, and I'm so pleased you are still enjoying Rosey - she keeps me young. Fortunately she didn't follow me to Peru!
DeleteI couldn't resist one more crack at this prompt: six haiku! Thank you, Keith!
ReplyDeleteMy my you've been busy! And you took us over the magic 30 posts for the first time since we kicked off three years ago!
ReplyDeletePlease do carry on. Your prompts are delightful and thought provoking.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear this...although I'm fairly new to the world of prompting blogs I have loved my visits here and the writers who tended the prompts. I think it is a bummer when blog traffic gets slowed because people are unwilling to give a little and click a few links when they're done writing. Any way, if everyone just clicked and read three or four poems (if that is all they had time for), that would be better than not at all.
ReplyDeleteThank you for all you do, Keith!
